WARDOGS Progression System
Six XP tracks, contract objectives, and the seasonal meta — how BULKHEAD plans to keep the Control Zone fresh.
WARDOGS progression is not a single XP bar you grind in deathmatch. It is a layered system that rewards teamplay, punishes ego buys, and — according to BULKHEAD’s April 2026 roadmap — adds a seasonal contract and challenge layer during Early Access that will shift which jobs are worth doing each week. This page explains the six tracks, the in-match contract objectives that showed up in Closed Beta, the planned Black Market and Vault systems, and how seasonal resets are supposed to work.
Numbers are Closed Alpha / Closed Beta community recordings. Early Access on 10 September 2026 can retune any of it. Steam and BULKHEAD win when a wiki spreadsheet disagrees.
The six XP tracks
WARDOGS does not lock you into a class. It watches what you do and pays XP into six separate tracks. Community playtests agreed on these six:
| Track | How you earn it | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Assault | Rifle kills, grenades, zone presence | Better ARs, optics, grenades |
| Medic | Bandages, revives, SMG kills | Defibs, medical items, smoke |
| Recon | DMR/sniper kills, spotting, binoculars | Long rifles, ghillie, intel tools |
| Support | FOB building, repairs, launchers, LMGs | Hammers, rockets, AA, denial kit |
| Driver | Ground transport, supply runs, spawn vehicles | Faster trucks, Humvees, some armour |
| Pilot | Helicopter lifts, air supply, assists | Little birds, transport helis |
Your Wardog level is the sum of all six. Some account-wide unlocks — heavy armour, certain vehicles — read against the Wardog total rather than a single track.
Level is permission. Cash is the purchase.
Unlocking gear is two steps, the same trap that catches players on the classes page:
- Earn enough XP in the track so the item appears in the vendor.
- Pay a one-time cash unlock, then still pay the per-life vendor price every time you buy it.
You can be Support 7 and still be too poor to swing the large hammer. You can unlock the M4 and still be too broke to take it out of the crate. That two-step pattern is intentional. BULKHEAD described it as “permission without means.”
The recruit discount — first nine levels
Community catalogues and vendor reads during Closed Alpha and Closed Beta both showed a 50% discount across the entire shop for accounts under level 9. A T-21 listed at $600 rang up at $300. The discount expires when you hit level 9; it does not follow you forever.
Use the recruit discount to experiment. A cheap first life teaches you death cost without burning a wallet you cannot rebuild.
In-match contract objectives
Closed Beta 02 footage showed contract objectives appearing inside individual matches — short-term goals that awarded cash and XP beyond the baseline tick income. These are not the seasonal challenge system BULKHEAD described for later Early Access; they are the per-session layer.
Community notes from Closed Beta 02 identified contract types including:
- Capture a specific objective — defend or take a marked position inside the current zone.
- Revive teammates — each revive inside the Hot Zone paid bonus cash in tests.
- Transport squadmates — driving or flying players into the zone rewarded transport XP and cash.
- Destroy enemy equipment — FOB pieces, vehicles, and emplacements had bounties.
- Spot enemies in the Hot Zone — Recon XP for calling targets in the inner circle.
Contracts are optional layer, not the win condition. The 30-second tick still decides the match. A player who ignores contracts and plays the census can out-earn a contract farmer who never touches the zone.
BULKHEAD confirmed in April 2026 that the Challenge System — the seasonal layer — arrives during Early Access as a feature patch, not on day one. It will sit on top of the six XP tracks and the per-match contract system.
Black Market and Vault — roadmap, not launch
BULKHEAD’s April 2026 roadmap listed four systems as “designed but not shipped on day one”:
- Black Market — a rotating in-game shop for cosmetic and practical items.
- Vault — a personal storage system for gear and unlocks.
- Player Skills — an individual progression layer above the six tracks.
- Challenge System — seasonal objectives with rewards.
All four arrive as feature patches during Early Access, not at launch on 10 September 2026. Do not buy the game expecting the Black Market to be open on day one.
When the Black Market and Challenge System arrive, this page will expand to cover them. Until then, the six tracks and the per-match contract layer are the progression.
Seasonal resets and progress wipes
BULKHEAD has said Early Access runs one to two years. Playtest talk mentioned seasonal or branch wipes that convert leftover progress to a cosmetic currency. This is unconfirmed for Early Access — the studio has not published a wipe policy.
The closed beta page has the wipe warning for pre-launch tests. Until Steam News confirms a reset, treat your level as persistent.
What this means for your first week
- Play two matches on the recruit discount before spending the full wallet.
- Mix roles — buy medical and actually use it. Medic XP is the friend-track.
- Drive or fly teammates into the zone. Transport pays in XP and cash.
- Do not chase contracts at the expense of the census. The tick still decides.
- Ignore S-tier unlock screenshots until the wallet can eat two deaths.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common WARDOGS questions.
How many XP tracks does WARDOGS have?
Six: Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Driver, and Pilot. Your Wardog level is the sum of all six. See classes.
What is the recruit discount?
Accounts under level 9 pay 50% across the entire vendor. A T-21 at $600 costs $300. Use it to learn death cost without burning a wallet you cannot rebuild.
When does the Black Market arrive?
BULKHEAD's roadmap lists the Black Market, Vault, Player Skills, and Challenge System as feature patches during Early Access — not at launch on 10 September 2026. See updates.
Do contract objectives replace the Control Zone tick?
No. Contracts are bonus income and XP. The 30-second occupancy tick still decides the match. Playing contracts at the expense of the census loses rounds.
