WARDOGS Early Access

What $39.99 buys on 10 September 2026 — and what BULKHEAD says it will not.

Early Access Date and Price

Steam Early Access for WARDOGS is 10 September 2026. The base game is $39.99. The Supporter Edition is $49.99 and adds the Supporter Pack. This page is the buyer’s brief: content, duration, price ladder, and the studio’s own reasons not to purchase. Gameplay loops stay on how to play. Hardware stays on system requirements.

As of this writing the Steam unlock is still upcoming. Closed betas are not a substitute for the EA branch.

Why Early Access, in BULKHEAD’s words

The store’s EA questionnaire is unusually plain. They want a fully playable FPS in players’ hands, then they want to iterate on balance, pacing, progression, and features in public. Community channels they name: Discord, X, YouTube, Steam. They expect one to two years in Early Access and say they do not want to live there forever.

The full 1.0 pitch is broader: more maps, weapons, vehicles, objective variations, deeper progression, a stronger seasonal meta, and fighter jets. The studio has also warned that EA will not be a weekly content firehose. Core gameplay, performance, and the metagame come first. If you need a new map every month to stay interested, wait. That is not an insult. It is the 10 Reasons video in sentence form.

What you should expect in the box on day one

Confirmed across official pages and BULKHEAD talks:

  • 100-player, three-team Control Zone mode.
  • Large sandbox maps with randomised 2×2 km objectives. Public numbers include 256 km² scale and “three maps with three variations.”
  • Persistent cash and XP tracks. Starting wallet $10,000.
  • Combined arms: infantry, logistics, construction, destruction, helicopters, armour. Jets later.
  • Weapon and vehicle catalogues in studio talk around 37 weapons and 21 vehicles, plus three maps with variations. Count method can still move; treat it as a box size, not a sealed patch note. BULKHEAD has also said Early Access will not be a weekly content drop — metagame, bugs, and the occupancy loop come first.
  • Proximity VOIP.
  • Online PvP only. Always-on internet. Easy Anti-Cheat.
  • Community-server intent as a PC-first feature.

What you should not expect on day one: a finished 1.0 progression season, console versions, perfect controller support, a battle pass, weekly map drops, or a refund-proof content roadmap. Read closed beta for what testers already complained about. If the client will not authenticate on unlock day, start at troubleshooting rather than assuming a ban.

Price ladder

  • $39.99 during Early Access (US reference; your Steam region wins).
  • $49.99 Supporter Edition now.
  • Studio talk of stepping toward $49.99 then $59.99 as the game fattens toward 1.0.
  • Early Access buyers keep the game when the price rises. That is the usual Steam pattern; still read the store page on purchase day.

BULKHEAD has told people to refund if the closed tests were not for them. Use Steam’s refund rules. Do not buy a second copy from a key shop.

Monetisation promises (and the asterisk)

During Early Access: no extra cash shop, no battle pass, skins earned except the Supporter Pack. After 1.0: the studio has said out loud that if base-game sales ever fail to cover live costs, some form of additional monetisation could appear years later. They would rather tell you now than surprise you. Factor that into a $40 decision like an adult.

Who should buy on the 10th

Buy if you want a 100-player occupancy shooter with a persistent wallet, you can run the minimum spec, and you are willing to be the balance patch. Read getting started the night before.

Wait if you need jets, weekly maps, console, flawless gamepad, or a finished meta. Wait if a GTX 1660 on upscaling sounds miserable. Wait if Battalion 1944 still makes you unwilling to trust the studio — they said that part themselves.
