WARDOGS Armour System
Four armour levels, durability, and why a Level 4 plate still will not save you from everything.
WARDOGS has a tiered armour system that changes how every weapon performs. A rifle that kills an unarmoured target in two shots might need four against Level 3 plates. A ghillie suit occupies the armour slot and provides zero ballistic protection. Understanding what you are trading — and when — is part of every correct loadout decision.
Numbers are Closed Alpha / Closed Beta community recordings. Early Access on 10 September 2026 can retune any of it.
The four armour tiers
Community catalogues from Closed Beta recorded four protection levels with their damage reduction percentages:
| Tier | Damage reduction | Durability range | Playtest cost tier | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | ~30% | 80–120 | Low cost | Basic protection, limited durability |
| Level 2 | ~40% | 120–200 | Mid cost | Better protection, moderate durability |
| Level 3 | ~55% | 200–280 | Higher cost | Significant protection, good durability |
| Level 4 | ~65% | 280–300 | Highest cost | Maximum protection, top durability |
The ghillie suit provides 0% damage reduction. It is concealment, not armour. BULKHEAD discussed this directly in feedback videos.
How durability works
Armour has a durability bar that depletes as it absorbs hits. Higher-tier armour lasts longer but still breaks. When durability reaches zero, the armour provides no protection — you are effectively unarmoured for the rest of that life.
Community notes from Closed Beta described a four-stage wear ladder:
- Full — full damage reduction
- Degraded — reduced protection, visual wear on the model
- Critical — minimal protection, warning indicator
- Broken — zero protection, must repair or replace
Repair costs and whether broken armour can be repaired at a FOB were still being catalogued in Closed Beta. Check the vendor for current repair options.
What Level 4 armour does and does not stop
The AMR 50 — the game’s most powerful anti-materiel rifle at ~$8,800 — fires .50 Calibre rounds. Playtest community analysis found that Level 4 chest armour can prevent a one-shot kill from the AMR 50 at typical engagement ranges. This does not make the AMR useless against armoured targets; it means the fight takes more than one trigger pull.
The practical implication: even maximum protection has limits against the most expensive weapons in the game. No armour makes you immune to everything.
Ghillie suit: when it is worth it
The ghillie occupies the armour slot. You give up ballistic protection to block the killcam and blend into environment. Playtest consensus:
Use the ghillie when:
- You are playing a dedicated stalker life on the rim of the Control Zone
- You are a sniper or DMR user who needs to reposition after every shot
- You are confident you will not be caught in a Hot Zone brawl
Skip the ghillie when:
- You are entering buildings or moving through the inner circle
- Your role requires you to take fire (medic, driver, assault)
- You cannot consistently avoid being seen — the killcam block only works if you are not dead
BULKHEAD’s own feedback videos addressed the ghillie directly: it is a specialist tool, not a default pick. If you are new, buy armour and reposition after kills instead of paying for luxury stealth.
Headshots and the killcam
WARDOGS features a killcam. The ghillie suit blocks it — your killer sees a blurry silhouette rather than your exact position. This is a genuine tactical advantage for players who want to reposition after a kill without being immediately tracked.
Headshots reduce killcam information regardless of body armour. A well-placed headshot against any armour tier provides clean position data for the killer.
Choosing armour for your loadout
- Poverty kit / new player — Level 1 or Level 2. Cheap, better than nothing, enough to survive a flanking shot.
- Standard infantry — Level 2 or Level 3. The balance between protection and cost. Most players in the zone will be in this range.
- Hot Zone brawler — Level 3 minimum. The inner circle is where fights are won and lost. Do not go in with a ghillie.
- Sniper / stalker — Ghillie. You are trading protection for information denial and repositioning ability.
- Anti-materiel or vehicle hunter — Level 3 or 4. You will be stationary. You need protection against return fire.
Armour versus vehicle armour
Ground vehicles (Humvees, APCs, tanks) have separate armour systems from player body armour. The L2A6 tank has its own durability pool. A player wearing Level 4 plates inside a Humvee does not have double protection — the vehicle armour absorbs hits first.
Anti-vehicle weapons (RPG-7, MAAWS, AMR 50) are designed to damage vehicle armour, not player plate systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common WARDOGS questions.
What does the ghillie suit do in WARDOGS?
It blocks the killcam and provides concealment. It offers zero ballistic protection and occupies the armour slot. Use it for stalker or sniper lives, not for Hot Zone brawls.
Can Level 4 armour stop an AMR 50 one-shot?
Playtest community analysis found that Level 4 chest armour can prevent a one-shot from the AMR 50. This does not make the AMR useless — it means the fight takes more than one shot.
How does armour durability work?
Armour has a durability bar that depletes with hits. Community catalogues described four stages: Full, Degraded, Critical, and Broken. Broken armour provides no protection. Repair options were still being catalogued in Closed Beta.
Should I buy armour or a ghillie as a new player?
Buy armour. The ghillie is a specialist tool for experienced players who understand repositioning. BULKHEAD's own feedback videos made this point directly.
